Andy believes in the execution of succession development rather than succession plans. His coaching assists the organisation to identify future medium to longer goals; he engages with other senior executives to build support and puts in place measures to identify if progress is being made towards the development of the organisation in the longer term.

Good succession plans are action orientated and involve the development of individuals who have been earmarked for promotion and require grooming for future key leadership roles.

The plans do not have to be perfect, they can be kept simple and realistic, retaining the focus on development rather than complex plans and assessment criteria.
